New Managing Director

STFA are pleased to announcethat Mike Halliday has taken onthe role of ManagingDirector. Mike takes over the reins from Doug Bell, who has recently stepped down.

Mike is well known in tenancy circles having previously been aVice-Chairman of STFA. He returns to the organisation in a management capacity and comes to the role with extensive experience and background knowledge gained from working as a land agent and agricultural consultant for several national firms over the past decade. Alongside his new position, Mike willcontinue to work as an independent consultant and is a tenant farmer on Buccleuch Estates.

Chairman Christopher Nicholson said “We are very pleased to welcome Mike back into the STFA team. He is able to hit the ground running due to his experience within the Landlord / Tenant sphere and his past involvement with the organisation means he is already up to speed with the internal workings of STFA. We are currently working our way through important changes to the agricultural support framework, with much of the detail still to be settled. It is vital that tenant farmers are on an even footing with owner occupiers when it comes to future funding for biodiversity and carbon sequestration measures. Mike brings significant experience as an agricultural consultant, alongside his previous lobbying experience, and is well placed to represent tenant farmers through the process”.

Christopher also said “STFA would like to thank Doug for all his hard work over the last 4 years on behalf of STFA and our membership. We wish him all the best going forward”.

Following his appointment, Mike said “I am delighted to take up my position with STFA. My firstreal involvement with the organisation was around 15 years ago when STFA provided me with adviceduring a rent review, following which,Angus McCallinvited me to become a director. My interest in tenancy legislation grew from this opportunity andit played a large part in shaping my decision to move from fulltime farming into land agency. I’m pleased to me back and look forward to working with Christopherand the rest of the directors going forward”.
